Can we announce the gospel in the same way...?

from Jim Wallis's "God's Politics" blog....here is the voice of the day today...

Can we announce the gospel in the same way to the oppressor and to the oppressed, to the torturer and the tortured?

- Mortimer Arias
protestant church worker in Bolivia

wow! I would say that the quick answer is "no, we cannot announce the gospel in the same way"...but then I wonder about what "way" means here...living out the gospel, preaching the gospel, working for justice, visiting the prisoner, the sick, reaching out to those in need, "comforting the afflicted, afflicting the comfortable"...hmmmm....

It depends on who we is.

There is a church in the world but it is of the world's ways. We read about it all the time.

And there is a church in the world, but not of it, which he is still oppressed today.

That Church still proclaims the Good News to all, the alliftor and the afflicted. Still today the least of the least, the oppressed and the afflicted are the only one who can hear and receive it-- they are the blessed.

Still today there are those who seek to squash it, for they know that that Gospel is the end of all that they seek.

Still today, the Kingdom of God is in the midst of all that is going on here and now. For some it is heaven; for others hell on earth.

Still today it is the way of the cross, the only way of life in all its fullness NOW and forever.

It takes a dead man to preach the resurrection; only the oppressed can know what the Gospel is and can proclaim it.
