We pray and wait as patiently as we can for the Lord, and we live in hope.  In this sense, we find ourselves living "Advent lives" much of the time.  We live in hope that God will stoop to us, will lift us out of the pit, our of the mire and clay and will put us upon a high cliff where our footing will be sure.  We will be lifted out of the stuff that brings us down, and we have already felt the signs.  Not always clear, not always in total focus, not always without doubt, but we feel and see the signs.  The signs of God's mercy, the signs of God's goodness, even despite all the places we find ourselves stuck.  God will lift us from the mire and clay, and we live prayerfully, and with a deep sense of waiting.  But don't forget to see the signs of God's mercy and love, all around us!
