McNamara reportedly broke his own world record for the largest wave ever surfed, in Nazare, Portugal.

A Hawaiian professional surfer has likely broken his own world record by riding a towering wave off the coast of Portugal thought to be more than 100 feet high.
Garrett McNamara surfed the extraordinary wave Monday off the coast of Nazare, about 75 miles north of Lisbon.
Video of the incredible event captured McNamara, 45, climbing a series of rising waves in blue choppy waters, before ascending to the peak of a particularly bodacious breaker.

McNamara is seen riding the enormous cascading wave before falling to the sea.
His feat is thought to have set the new world record for tallest wave surfed. If that proves to be the case, McNamara will have broken the previously existing record, set by him, of 78 feet, which he did at the same location in November 2011.
Guinness World Records officials will being their verification process of the wave shortly.
