Twitter is a fast-growing “micro-blogging” site. A person places a post, a “tweet”, of up to 140 characters in length. This is displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (known as followers). This very simple idea has developed with a plethora of online tools and applications. After playing around with it a little, I soon realised it is ideal for sharing short quotes from the liturgy as well as pointing to liturgical resources as well as picking up some of the other interactive conversations that ensue - even non-liturgical

I am not alone in the realisation that twitter is ideal for “tweeting” short prayers and other church use. It has even been recommended by a cardinal. During Holy Week the Episcopalian church, Trinity Wall Street, realised the potential of twittering the passionfrom various twitter accounts.

One, fairly obvious, aside: within non-virtual communities there is always the danger of intercession degenerating into gossip. That is clearly magnified online.

Twittering in Church, With the Pastor's Encouragement

John Voelz isn't trying to brag, but it's fair to say he was down with Twitter before most people knew it was a proper noun.

Last year, Voelz, a pastor, was tweeting at a conference outside Nashville about ways to make the church experience more creative — ways to "make it not suck" — when suddenly it hit him: Twitter. (The TIME 100: Ashton Kutcher on "The Twitter Guys")

Voelz and David McDonald, the other senior pastor at Westwinds Community Church in Jackson, Mich., spent two weeks educating their congregation about Twitter, the microblogging site that challenges users to communicate in 140 characters or less. They held training sessions where congregants brought in their laptops, iPhones and Blackberrys. They upped the bandwidth in the auditorium. (Finding God on YouTube)

As expected, banter flourished. Tweets like "Nice shirt JVo" and "So glad they are doing Lenny Kravitz" flashed across three large video screens. But there was heartfelt stuff, too.
