Reel Theology: Summer films and theological reflections
Again this summer we are showing a series of films that work well as a basis for a theological reflection in June and July. We have rescheduled the start of this summer's series for June 26. So, come join us on Wednesday nights beginning June 26. Since we don't have Community Night during the summer, eat before you come, or brown bag it -- we'll provide popcorn. The movies will start promptly at 7 p.m.; the discussion will follow, after a short break. If you want to come just for the movie, that's OK too. Below is our movie lineup:
June 26 - O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) (106 min)
July 3 - The Truman Show (1998) (103 min)
July 10 - The Visitor (2007) (104 min)
July 17 - The Way (2010) (123 min)
July 24 - The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) (117 min)
July 31 - The Iron Giant (1999) (86 min) For children

Honoring all those who served - D-Day
O Judge of the nations,
we remember before you with grateful hearts
the men and women of our country who in the day of decision
ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy.
Grant that we may not rest until all the people of this land
share the benefits of true freedom and gladly accept its disciplines.
This we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Paul's Memorial ~ Our acolytes rock!
We have some terrific youth and children serving as acolytes at St. Paul's, and we are led by the wonderful efforts of Carol, Buck, and Lucy who each bring particular gifts and approaches to leading our acolytes. It is a pleasure to invite our young people to participate in the leadership of our services, and they do a great job!

The Church: that wonderful and sacred mystery
After reading Morning Prayer this morning and writing in my journal, I was reminded of this prayer, which proclaims the "wonderful and sacred mystery" that is the Church.
Blessings on this fine day!
~The Rev. Peter M. Carey
O God of unchangeable power and eternal light: Look favorably on your whole Church, that wonderful and sacred mystery; by the effectual working of your providence, carry out in tranquillity the plan of salvation; let the whole world see and knkow that things which were cast down are being raised up, and things which had grown old are being made new, and that all things are being brought to their perfection by him through whom all things were made, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
