Prayers for the repose of the soul of Richard "Dick" Cassel ~ Funeral Service on Saturday, December 4th at 11am

Dear Beloved Parishioners.,

Please join me in prayers for the repose of the soul of Richard "Dick" Cassel who died on November 27th in the presence of his beloved family.  

Dick's funeral service will be this coming Saturday (December 4th)  at 11:00am at St. Mary's; please join us.  The service will also be on Zoom, which you can access HERE 

Jane Cassel and her family will be hosting a visitation before the service at 10am in our Nave, and they also welcome everyone to a luncheon at 12noon.

O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of thy servant Richard, and grant him an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of thy saints; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Help us, we pray, in the midst of things we cannot understand, to believe and trust in the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection to life everlasting. Amen.

Obituary of Richard F. Cassel, Sr.

Richard F. Cassel, Sr., 89, of Plymouth Meeting, PA passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021.

 

Richard has lived in Plymouth Meeting for over 60 years.   He was born and raised in Skippack, Pa on September 9, 1932, the son of Henry and Lucinda (Fulton) Cassel.

Graduate of Norristown High School, class of 1951.  

Richard served in the US Army during the Korean War. 

He was a Union Carpenter for Carpenter Union Local 1595 for over 30 years.  Richard volunteered with Plymouth Township Little League as a coach with the senior White Sox team. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles fan.  He also enjoyed playing golf and bowled in the Norristown Church League.

 

He was the husband for 66 years of Jane (Price) Cassel.

 

Survivors include his wife, Jane Cassel of Plymouth Meeting, son Richard (& Kathleen Brady) Cassel of Conshohocken, granddaughter Casey Cassel of Roxborough, sister Bertha Warkentin of Schwenksville, and Sharon Hartkopf of Roxborough.

 

His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 630 East Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, PA 19128.  Friends may call on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00 to 10:45 AM at the Church.

 

Interment will be in St. Mary's Episcopal Churchyard.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 630 East Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, Pa 19128.

"Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

"Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."

"Constant Change is a Part of Our Tradition" Diocesan Convention Wrap-Up If participants in the Diocese of Vermont’s 2021 convention did not know the diocese was entering a period of turbulent change before the online sessions last Thursday and Saturday, they certainly knew it afterwards. The convention—conducted over Zoom—was the first since Bishop Shannon MacVean-Brown announced that a recent financial analysis indicated that the diocese would run out of money at some point in 2023. Presentations by the bishop, Bishop Sean Rowe of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Western New York, the Rev. Scott Neal of the recently-established task force to help chart the diocese’s future and Dr. Catherine Meeks of the Absalom Jones Center of Racial Healing in Atlanta, focused primarily on how the diocese might move into a new future while deepening its commitment to racial healing. “The church as an institution is bound by tradition and we have lived for generations thinking that part of our mission is to protect the church from change,” Bishop Shannon said, in a sermon during a service of morning prayer on Saturday, November 6. “However, we must no longer deny that constant change is part of our tradition.” Later, in her bishop’s address, she said the diocese’s future might include closer relationships, although not a merger, with the dioceses of New Hampshire and Maine. “We are looking for ways to collaborate across dioceses so that our ministries will be strengthened, and to achieve greater efficiency and increased stewardship of our financial resources,” she said. Ordinations on November 13 Melanie Combs and Linda Moore to be ordained deacons By the Grace of God and with the consent of the people, Bishop Shannon will ordain Melanie Combs and Linda Moore to the Sacred Order of Deacons on Saturday, November 13 at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Burlington. The service will be live streamed on the cathedral's YouTube channel. Celtic Advent Weekly Meditation Starting November 15 Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m. Anam Cara Sojourners, a group that explores Celtic spirituality and is directed by the Rev. Kim Hardy of St. James, Essex Junction, is hosting a weekday Celtic-themed online gathering during Advent. The series will provide quiet time for reflection to prepare for Christmas and a group to pray with during this season. The group will meet online at 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday beginning November 15. The book "Lean Towards the Light this Advent and Christmas" will be used, but purchasing the book is not required.
